Israel’s Brave Heroes Deserve more!
"We have to do right by our troops and for their families. These heroes and their families are feeling a lot of emotional and physical pain. We may never begin to comprehend the sacrifices these men and women have made but we know it is only right that we help meet their basic needs and to help them feel whole, welcomed and loved."
- Eyal was critically injured during a terrorist attack against a civilian bus near Mount Meiron. He lost his vision and his hearing and had to undergo multiple plastic surgery procedures in various parts of his body. As Eyal can neither see nor hear, the task of encouraging and supporting him emotionally is much more difficult to accomplish.
- In June 2000, Hanni decided she wanted to be a combatant trooper and joined the Border Guard units. In the course of her combat service, she participated in many operational activities.
On July 30, 2001 her patrol encountered a terrorist ambush. Hanni was severely injured in the face by two bullets. She was evacuated to the Beilinsohn Memorial Hospital, where she was treated initially at the intensive care ward and subsequently at the Mouth & Jaw ward. Due to the devoted care of the medical staff and support of everyone around her, Hanni was taken off the critical list and is currently undergoing additional procedures.
- On August 17, 1999 a patrol from the IDF Golani Brigade was attacked by a terrorist detachment.
Barak was one of the medical orderlies who arrived on the scene as a member of the rescue team. While treating his comrades-in-arms, Barak was seriously injured. He was commended for his performance under fire and for extending help to his friends while risking his own life. He was hospitalized with injuries in the lower part of his body and a badly ruptured kidney. Six months later, Barak was discharged and went home to complete his recovery. Throughout that period and to this day, "Em Haptu'im" has accompanied Barak and his family and has done her best to uplift their spirit.
- On July 17, 2002, while serving as a company commander with Nachshon battalion, Avichai led his troops on a search & pursuit mission to track and capture the terrorists who had launched the attack in Immanuel. In the course of the mission, Avichai administered first aid to two of his troopers who had been injured and continued the chase under fire. He managed to catch up with the fleeing terrorists, but at a critical moment experienced a stoppage in his firearm. The terrorist facing Avichai seized the opportunityand fired three rounds.
He pressed the nuzzle of his firearm against Avichai's temple and was about to fire a fourth round into Avichai's head, but the magazine was empty. A hand-to-hand struggle developed in which the terrorist was finally subdued. Avichai sustained injuries to all parts of his body and is now undergoing rehabilitation and recovery. Says Avichai: "In the beginning, at the hospital, you are considered a hero. The newspapers publish articles about you, VIP's come to visit you and shake your hand. Subsequently, however, everything calms down and you are no longer a star".
